Why is it important to get my car's oil changed?

Your car's engine is made up of many moving parts that require lubrication to run properly. Low quality oil means low quality lubrication, which can result in damage to your engine. Regularly replacing the engine oil means there will always be high quality oil lubricating all the moving parts, ensuring your Ford will run smoothly.

How do I know when my car needs an oil change?

Your owner's manual will tell you the factory recommended intervals for oil changes for your particular model. For 2008 and newer model year vehicles, Ford recommends that you change your oil every six months or 7,500 miles or every six months, and for 2007 and older models, we recommend an oil change every six months or 5,000 miles. Should any of the following warning signs appear, consult our service department.

  • The check engine light is on
  • Oil is silty or dark in color
  • The engine runs louder than normal
  • Oil levels are lower than recommended

Can I check the oil in my car myself?

Checking your oil is simple when you follow these easy steps:

  1. Make sure your car's engine has been turned off for at least ten minutes.
  2. Pop your hood and locate the oil dipstick.
  3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it across a lint-free cloth.
  4. Place the dipstick back in the roil reservoir and pull it out.
  6. Check to make sure your oil is at the proper level and look for an oily film on the dipstick's end.

If you can see that the oil is a silty dark brown or black with floating particles, it's time to bring your Ford in for service.
